Last week on "Hit The Ropes Radio" Shane, Daris, and I discussed the role of African-Americans in the world of wrestling. We touched on many topics including who's the most decorated champion, who could be next in line to be World Champion and what it takes for an African-American to get to the top.
After spending a little time thinking about all Shawn Michaels has done in wrestling just in recent memory it got me to thinking: is he the best ever in America? Shawn has found himself relevant in wrestling in four decades now. From his beginnings with the Rockers to his rise to superstar status and now his legitimate claim to being a living legend.
Jim Cornette is now shown in the ring. He calls Tyler Black to the ring for an interview regarding this weekend's re-match for the ROH World Title between Black and Austin Aries.

Tonight's show features the ECW Championship match between Christian and England's own William Regal.
We start off show with Abraham Washington and Tony Atlas. Since we are in England, we are subjected to cheap bad teeth jokes at the English viewers' expense. I will admit, Abe was funny here. The crowd pops loudly when Washington mentions Regal's name while plugging the main event. Yoshi Tatsu, suited up, is the guest on the show. Tatsu says Regal is very tough but Christian will retain. Rush Hour ripoff with the whole "Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?" line scene. The crowd appreciates Tatsu. Byron Sexton and Josh Matthews lead us into a video package of the Regal/Christian rivalry. I'm hoping that Regal gets the win. I've said it since last week. Yet, knowing my luck with predicitions, I will end up seeing Christian retain. Match #1: Paul Burchill w/ Katie Lea vs. Goldust I thought that Burchill would be facing Hurricane tonight in that Mask vs. ECW Career match. Apparently it is next week. This week, the Chelsea native faces the "Bizarre One" Goldust. I thought being in England would mean the fans would get a better reception but the Sheffield crowd doesn't take well to Chelsea folk. Burchill focuses his attack on Goldust's ribs. Baseball slide into the gold one's back, by Burchill, driving the ribs into the turnbuckle. Burchill strikes the ribs with elbows and stomps. Goldust is able to build some steam and hit a few clotheslines with his good arm. "Stand back, there's a hurricane coming through." Hurricane runs down the ring and circles the ring while the match continues. Goldust takes advantage and hits the Final Cut. Winner: Goldust via pinfall, using Final Cut Opinion: Decent, not great. I didn't expect to see Burchill go over here since he's been a jobber on ECW while staying relevantly important. Goldust still reeks of awesomeness. I'm hoping for a stellar match between Burchill and Hurricane next week. Rating: ** Backstage, Ryder praises Rosa Mendes' announcing skills from last week. He puts out the offer of her being in his corner at ringside. She will think about it. When she's gone we get Zacky daydreaming about giving Eskimo kisses to Mendes and skipping down the hall with her. Really? You're going to skip down the hallway of a wrestling show? Regal and Tiffany exchange "pleasantries" backstage. Regal plans on winning tonight. Tiffany is okay with it whether he wins...or loses. Match #2: Vance Archer vs. Jason Blackwell Archer tells us that his opponent will find out who Vance Archer is in their match. The man formerly known as Lance Hoyt takes out the local talent. He's dominant yes, but what can really tell from viewing five moves. You hear that Cena? I'm kidding. Cena has more than five moves folks. Winner: Vance Archer via pinfall, using Reverse DDT Opinion: It's a squash. Rating: 3/4* Main Event: William Regal vs. Christian© ECW Championship match It is time for why we are all here. It is time for Blackpool's own, William Regal, to get that ECW title shot that he has coveted for weeks. He is loving the love the fans are giving him. Christian, you keep looking for those Peeps because your in Regal country right now. Former MTV chick, who does the announcing, gives us the proper intros before we are set for battle. We begin with both men jockeying for position. Then we go to commercial at 10:40. Looka t that, 20 minutes left for the match. I hope that this is the last of the commercials but I doubt it. Look at that, there is something worthy to see during commercials. We see the commercial for the upcoming Hulk Hogan DVD, releasing next Tuesday. Back from break, Regal is sent out of the ring and Christian hits a baseball slide through the middle and bottom ropes. Backbody drop drop. Regal is in control. A sleeper hold, followed by some strikes to the face. Christian is placed up on the top rope by Regal but Christian fights his way out and launches himself on to his challenger. With Christian once again perched up top we get a "boo/yeah" exchange of strikes. Regal gets the last laugh with a double underhook butterfly suplex off the top. I was right, we go to commercials one final time. This time Christian misses his mark with his baseball slide. Regal is happy to tak advantage of the opening. Inside the ring he hits Christian with some strikes and then a kick to the face. TWO! The pace has slowed with Regal controling the action. Christian goes for a sunset flip but Regal sits down on him. The ref is counting and Regal holds on to the rope for leverage. The ref sees this and stops counting. Christian reverses the pin and gets a two count himself. Suplex by Regal turns Christian inside out. Christian is able to hit the Killswitch out of the blue. He's slow to cover and when he does, Regal is able to kick out at two. Xtian encourages the fans to get involved with the clapping thing he likes to do. It looks like we are going to see a tornado DDT by the champ but Regal isn't having it. He shoves Christian right off the top to the outside ring floor. Christian is able to rebound before Regal can get to him and hits two missile dropkicks. Forearm shot by Regal knocks Christian down. Two. After missing the knee trembler, Regal rebounds and connects. The champ is able to kick out. Christian goes for the Killswitch again but Regal breaks it and locks in the Regal Stretch. Just as he looks like he is about to tap Christian hits a few elbows to free himself. Top rope shoryuken by Christian. T-bone suplex by Regal soon after but that doesn't keep Christian down. Regal goes for the Knee Trembler again but Xtian avoids contact, knees the Englishman in the face, and engages the Killswitch. Winner: Christian via pinfall, using Killswitch Opinion: In some parts the match was a bit too slow. That is to be expected when you talk about a Regal match as he will slow down the pace with his submission-base style. The match overall was very well put together. Both men hit their finishers and kicked out of them once. Regal still looked tremendous in the loss. Rating: ****
