Is this a new entrance video and theme song for SmackDown! or have I just been catching the show after the song stops playing? SmackDown! is live taped from Philadelphia, PA, home of the original ECW, Chikara, and the World Series losing Phillies. This is the episode Dragon Gate USA's Gabe Sapolsky (also HTR interviewee) attended and blogged about not enjoying it.

Batista, showered with boos, heads to the ring for a match.

Match #1: Batista vs. Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy is looking slimmer. Seems like he's getting back into shape after that surgery. Seems like we had some bad editing job as the action seems to cut a few times early in the match. After a power slam, Batista wears Hardy down with a sleeper hold. Hardy gets out, hits an elbow to the back of Batista's neck from the top rope, and goes for the Twist of Fate. Batista counters, attempts the Batista Bomb, but Hardy counters and hits a DDT. Two count.

Batista hits Hardy with three consecutive Spine Busters. He picks up the older Hardy boy and delivers the Batista Bomb.

Winner: Batista via pinfall

Opinion: A Batista match tends to be a match that lacks much excitement. It was about five minutes long and did its job for making Batista look dominant going into Survivor Series. Mission accomplished. Hardy didn't look TOO weak here. Rating: **

We recap last week's contract signing between Batista and Rey Mysterio.

Segment

Josh Matthews catches up with Batista backstage. The Animal states Rey Mysterio, who embarrassed him last week at the contract signing, will never embarass him again. At Survivor Series he will punish Mysterio with no remorse.

Video Package

After commercial we get a package showing the dominance of the Brothers of Destruction, Kane and the Undertaker.

Segment

Vickie Guerrero and Eric Escobar comes in to join Theodore Long. Guerrero tells Long that he needs to get control of his show. She wants to know why he hasn't used her boyfriend. Long stops her and says he has never needed, nor does he want, her advice.

Vince McMahon comes in and informs Long that Vickie will be a special consultant to ensure Long gets off probation. Vickie is happy, very happy.

Match #2: Drew McIntyre vs. Finlay

Before the match begins they show us the issues Finlay has had with McIntyre for the last three weeks. McIntyre is on the mic and says Finlay doesn't like to fight, he likes to cry. He is afraid of McIntyre. The Scot wants the Irishman to come out and fast. Wouldn't it be awesome if Finlay came out to his OLD music?

As the bell sounds Finlay begins wailing away at McIntyre like he stole his Lucky Charms. A trite joke, I know. The ref attempts to pull Finlay off McIntyre. Finally, the ref succeeds. When Finlay goes back at McIntyre he is met with a poke to the eye. Double-underhook DDT follows.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

Opinion: Things came off as personal, as they should here. There was no need for body slams and rest holds. This was all about two men who wanted to beat the crap out of one another (though Finlay did the beating down). Rating: **

In-Ring Segment

CM Punk comes to the ring to address the WWE Universe. In the ring is a black table with three buckets (with X's on them) and a trash can in front of the table. It is time for a straight edge intervention. The first step is to admit that you have a problems. Under the first bucket is a carton of cigarettes. The cigarettes are emptied into the trash. Bucket number two is prescription drugs. "This is not candy. It is failure in a bottle." The pills are tossed out. The last bucket has a bottle of whiskey. The crowd pops for the alcohol. The whiskey is emptied into the trash and the crowd isn't happy at all.

Here comes R-Truth. Truth tells Punk that people can make their own decisions. Truth is, Truth doesn't like Punk. Mr. What's Up? kicks the trash can into Punk and hits a DDT. The trash can is then emptied over the fallen Punk.

Match #3: John Morrison © vs. Dolph Ziggler (2-out-of-3 Falls match for IC Championship)

For those keeping track, this is Ziggler's 1,568, 938th Intercontinental title shot. Perhaps 1,568,938th time is the charm.

A pair of quick clotheslines and then a leg lariat by the champ early on. Morrison goes for the Starship Pain early on but Ziggler goes to the outside. Morrison lands on his feet. (Bad editing job again.) Morrison springboards and hits a somersault on Ziggler. Ziggler is rolled into the ring for another Starship Pain attempt. Again, Morrison is thwarted as Ziggler gets his knees up. When Ziggler approaches, Morrison gets him into a small package for the first pinfall.  Morrison: 1 Ziggler: 0

We all know that this is going to three rounds. Anyway, we go to commercials after the first pin fall to an upset Ziggler.

Ziggler is trying to get a pin as we return to action. Morrison kicks out. Ziggler is working on Morrison's ribs with a body scissor and chin lock. We get a Zig Zag from Dolph.  Morrison: 1  Ziggler: 1

After the ref makes sure that Morrison is able to compete, Ziggler hits a dropkick. Another body scissor by DZ. A big-time gut buster by Ziggler. Morrison's back is wrapped around the ring post. Morrison eats an X Factor from Ziggler. Morrison bounces off the ropes and Ziggler picks him up for what looks like a side slam but Morrison turns it into a tilt-a-whirl DDT. Starship Pain means Ziggler needs to wait for the 1,568,939th time to win the gold.

Winner: Morrison-2  Ziggler-1

Opinion: It was a match that saw three pinfalls yet it was really only about 14 minutes long. Couldn't we get a bit more time for something like this? It was a good match, nonetheless. I continue to wish Ziggler will be given the gold. I don't like how Morrison, after being beaten down as he was, comes back and hits those last two moves at the end out of nowhere. Rating: ***1/2

Match #4: Mickie James vs. Layla

Ah, I do enjoy seeing Layla grace the screen. I've met her, FYI, as she was a former Miami Heat dancer at the time I was interning with the radio station that did the Heat games.

James is taking it to Layla, stomping on her in the corner. Layla takes Mickie's legs out from under her. Low dropkick to Mickie. Layla tosses Mickie into the corner and Mickie leaps over her when Layla charges. Mickie is able to roll her up with a bridge for the pin.

Winner: Mickie James via pinfall

Layla informs Mickie, after the match, that she has something to show her. Michelle McCool pops up on screen looking like a farmhand. She sings "Old McDonald" and calls Mickie "Piggie James", providing a Photoshopped picture of James on a pig. Mickie sheds a tear.

Opinion: This was a quick match. The post-match stuff was longer than the match itself. McCool is still not pleasant when cutting promos/interviews but the video clip got better as it went on. The whole Porky Pig "That's All Folks" at the end was a nice touch. Rating: 1/2* (match)

Match #6: Rey Mysterio vs. Tyson Kidd w/ Natalya

Batista is at the announcers table for this match. Batista isn't doing any talking on the microphone. Mysterio goes for the 619 but Kidd rolls out of the ring. Mysterio goes to the top top rope and Batista throws Kidd out of the way. The ref calls for the bell. Batista is smiling. A seated-senton by Rey takes out "The Animal." Batista is furious and chases after Mysterio. Rey uses his speed to foil the big man.

Winner: Tyson Kidd via DQ (I believe)

Opinion: The match was simply there to continue the Rey/Batista issue. The match, itself, was short. The post-match antics were quite funny. Rating: *1/2

Segment

JeriShow is in the locker room talking strategy. Jericho wants them to be on the same page tonight but Show is thinking about Sunday. Show thinks Jericho is scared. Jericho isn't scared. Show reminds us that he has been tag champ with both Kane and 'Taker. He knows them the best. Jericho won't let Show intimidate him and he's not afraid of the brothers. The lights go off in the room and Jericho is screaming for the lights. The lights come back on and it is revealed that Show had flicked them off.

RAW was at Madison Square Garden this week in case you missed it. The WWE reminds us of this with their package of MSG moments accompanied with Jay Z and Rihanna providing the music.

Main Event: JeriShow vs. Brothers of Destruction

The BoD come out together to Undertaker's music.

Kane and Jericho start things off. Kane gets the better of Jericho early on before tagging in 'Taker. Jericho takes a few shots from the Deadman before tagging in Show. Show tries to intimidate Undertaker but no dice. BoD clotheslines Show over the top rope, taking us to our obligatory commercial break.

Kane slaps on what might be the choke slam on Jericho but Big Show comes in and spears him. Big Show is taking it to Kane. Puts him up on the top rope but Kane pushes him off and connects with the clothesline from the top. Undertaker comes in and hits the Snake Eyes on Jericho followed by a leg drop. Things quickly break down after 'Taker locks Jericho into Hell's Gate and Big Show breaks it up with a led drop.

The fight spills to the outside. Show is tossed through the ringside barrier. Before the brothers can double chokeslam Big Show through the announce table, Jericho interferes. Jericho eats a chokeslam from Kane back in the ring. Show comes in and takes out the brothers. Jericho "accidentally" Code Breakers Show. He then goes and grabs the world title and heads up to the top of the ramp. He screams "This is mine."

Winner: Umm...

Opinion: This was decent, not outstanding. The break down at the end of the match was good and the discord between Jericho and Show is good for the match on Sunday. Rating: ***
