Last week on "Hit The Ropes Radio" Shane, Daris, and I discussed the role of African-Americans in the world of wrestling. We touched on many topics including who's the most decorated champion, who could be next in line to be World Champion and what it takes for an African-American to get to the top.
After spending a little time thinking about all Shawn Michaels has done in wrestling just in recent memory it got me to thinking: is he the best ever in America? Shawn has found himself relevant in wrestling in four decades now. From his beginnings with the Rockers to his rise to superstar status and now his legitimate claim to being a living legend.
Jim Cornette is now shown in the ring. He calls Tyler Black to the ring for an interview regarding this weekend's re-match for the ROH World Title between Black and Austin Aries.

People might scream; things change get over it, but that's a bunch of crock. ECW was its own brand. It had a specific identity. That'd be like Nike changing the swoosh to a full circle, or pick any symbol it doesn't matter, to look more today. No. You can tweak the swoosh, round the edges or something, but you don't try and reinvent it. If the WWE was going to have a developmental brand they were going to put on national TV, cool. Don't exploit a brand for your own benefit. If you do, at least have the cutesy to hand the WWE Universe a fresh pair of pants when ya piss on it's leg and tell them it's raining. With a rant fully behind us now, lets encourage the WWE to continue to freshen things up as it seems to be the theme of the month. There's a youth moment going on, ECW is being re-branded, let's take advantage of this before they flip-flop to the same old same. D-Generation X to Degenerate X These two are about as old and stale as it comes and desperately need to be re-branded. Yeah, HBK can still put on the match of the year, but why must we sit through the corny promotions that are almost as bad as DX pulling childish pranks on McMahon a few years ago despite both members being like 90? Let's keep it real. Instead of fighting Jericho and the Big Show, it'd be more appropriate if they went up against Geritol and The Gardening Show. And while we're on lame name changes, here are a few others I'll throw out:The Great Khali to Not That Great Khali and MVP to Above Average. It's time to let this go. So you want to gain some national exposure at the WWE Universe's entertainment expense? Cool. But the ship has sailed, hasn't it? I mean how much exposure did you get from Verne Troyer? Did you think there'd be water cooler talk on him? Now, if he gave us a The Surreal Life moment and stood drunk and naked on stage while peeing on the Titantron, then ya. Otherwise End the Raw Guest Host bit. Get me a great permanent host and occasionally work in a celebrity instead of over saturating the market. I hear Bret Hart's getting more involved in wrestling now. He's one sincere apology from HBK away to coming back. Or, more realistically, one New Hart Foundation push away from coming back. Or what about the Macho Man Randy Savage, Ohhhh Yeah! Bury the hatchet with this guy and he's crazy golden on the mic. Okay, I'm asking for a bit too much. I'll settle for Mike Adamle if it ends this debacle... then again, maybe not. WWE Divas that Can be Knockouts Enough with the WWE Divas who can't wrestle in the ring already. If you want eye candy, cool, but there's a position for that and it's called a valet. I'm all for Divas in the ring. Give me more of Mickie James, Natalya and Melina. But if you can't wrestle, don't waste eight minutes of good TV time. That's what FCW's for. Until then, escort the guys (or gals) to the ring and get in your occasional low blow or an eye rake and call it a day. There are hundreds of changes that can be made, feel free to list yours, but the bottom line is they are doing something that should've been done all along. I applaud the move. My only worry is they're almost doing too much changing. Switching PPV names, show names, roster changes and so on. But I guess they've never heard the old saying, the more things change, the more they stay the same.
